first post
Hello everyone, im IrregularDX, and this is ma cool website that i made B). I started working on this website a while ago but i had completely abandoned it for like a month, so some days ago i decided to try to finish it.
How?
First of all, i am TERRIBLE at web development, and making it from scratch with HTML and CSS seemed like such a chore to do, i also dont really like frameworks like react or any of those javascript thingies (also i hate javascript in general).
So one day i learned about static site generators, basically, you write your webpages in markdown, and the generator will turn them into a proper website based on a template. I ended up choosing HUGO, which is a great static site generator, its easy to use and really fast so i definitely recommend it. Choosing a website template was hard as some were either too massive and complex, or too minimalistic and lacked customization options. The template im using right now is called Relearn, which is a theme for documentations and such. Its a really good template and has plenty of customization options.
Why?
Because i hate social media and want the individual web to come back, and making a website seemed like an interesting side project. I wanted to have a place where i documented projects like my DX32 development boards, that could also let me improve my writing skills.
why am i hosting on neocities and not github pages?
Both are free hosting solutions. Github pages is often geared towards projects and repositories, and Neocities is aimed at people who want to make a simple website. While my website would be better fit for github pages, I picked neocities because github pages seemed like such a hassle to set up like god damnnnnnn and git drives me CRAZY so yeah neocities it is. One thing of note is that my website doesnt really fit in, as most websites go for a Web 1.0 look, now while i love that aesthetic and all things 2000’s, i have no idea how to do that kinda thing, and like i said on the second paragraph of this page i suck balls at web development.
